Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
